Luton Town picked up the points with a 3-0 win over local rivals Watford.

The Hatters’ first win in four games was a comprehensive one as they saw off the challenge of the Hornets at Kenilworth Road, with Jordan Clark, Carlton Morris and Jacob Brown doing the honours.

The result sees Luton climb a few places up the league table and see off the job against a Watford side who could’ve moved into the automatic promotion places with a win.

Watford were nearly gifted a lead by Luton in bizarre circumstances in the only two minutes. Defender Tom Holmes attempted to pass the ball from a long way out back to Thomas Kaminski, but an overhit pass looped over Kaminski’s head and narrowly missed the top corner of his own net.

Having survived that, Luton upped the tempo, and they came close when Reece Burke saw a strike denied by Daniel Bachmann.

In the 11th minute, Luton would grab the game’s opener. An Alfie Doughty corner was half-cleared to Holmes, whose shot struck Clark to wrong-foot Bachmann and end up in the back of the net.

Watford struggled to get going in response, with the first half being a close and frantic affair as the two sides struggled to get going but with Luton looking likelier of the two to make something happen.

Within two minutes of the restart, Luton would make it 2-0. Again, a corner unlocked the Watford backline, with a Doughty corner finding Morris in the six-yard box and the striker duly heading the ball into the back of the net.

Kaminski’s first save of note came just after, as he made a flying stop to keep out Tom Dele-Bashiru.

While Luton were forced to take off players through injuries, they still had moments and came close when Bachmann denied Brown.

But Luton would make it 3-0 in second half stoppage time, capping off a fine day for Luton supporters. A through-pass by goalkeeper Kaminski released Brown down the left flank, who was able to dart down the flank before cutting inside and drilling in a fine low shot to seal the win for the home side.

Luton will be seeking to build momentum off the back of this win in midweek, when they welcome early high-fliers Sunderland to Kenilworth Road.
