Red Bull missed out on taking a podium at the Mexico City Grand Prix as Max Verstappen was involved in a controversial incident and Sergio Perez had a difficult home race.
Verstappen finished sixth having started second, with the Dutchman handed an accumulative 20-second time penalty for two incidents with championship rival Lando Norris.
Meanwhile, team-mate Perez was the last finisher at his home race, with the Mexican finishing in 17th position and a lap down on Verstappen after a race where he was unable to recover from difficult qualifying, was handed a time penalty and suffered damage following contact with RB driver Liam Lawson.
The race was a chaotic afternoon in Mexico for Red Bull, who see Verstappen retain the lead in the Driver’s Championship but see his lead cut while Red Bull fell to third in the Constructor’s Championship.
For the driver’s standings, Verstappen is on 362 points and holds a 47 point lead on Norris, and a 71 point lead on Ferrari star Charles Leclerc.
With no points scored in Mexico, Perez remains 8th in the championship. He is on 150 points, sitting 27 behind George Russell and 88 clear of Fernando Alonso in 9th.
In the constructor’s side, a sequence that had seen Ferrari take a 1-2 and a 1-3 in the last two full grand prix races means that Red Bull drop below the Italian-based team in the Constructor’s Championship standings and into third position.
Red Bull have 512 points with 4 races of the season to go, with the Milton Keynes-based team now 25 points behind Ferrari and 54 points off leaders McLaren.
The race had begun brightly enough for Red Bull, with Verstappen passing Carlos Sainz off the line and Perez gaining a few positions off the line.
Things, however, quickly unravelled for Red Bull. Perez would be given a time penalty for not lining up properly at the start, while Verstappen would quickly be involved in incidents.
Verstappen was passed by Sainz a few laps after the restart following a first lap safety car brought out by a collision between Alex Albon and Yuki Tsunoda.
But things became more intense on lap ten. Norris made a move on Verstappen, and as the two duelled, Norris went off track and came back on ahead of Verstappen. A few corners later, Verstappen made an aggressive divebomb that took him and Norris off track, allowing Charles Leclerc to slip past both.
Verstappen was given two separate 10 second penalties for the two incidents, with the accumulated 20 second time penalty seeing Verstappen drop below the Mercedes pair of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton and finish adrift in sixth position.
Perez, meanwhile, was involved in a chaotic afternoon of his own. He suffered damage after contact with Lawson, had a further tangle with Lance Stroll, suffered a lack of pace on a two-stop strategy in a race where most drivers one-stopped, and had a failed attempt to get fastest lap as he finished last.
Red Bull face a further test of their credentials next time out when they travel to the next round in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, featuring a sprint race.

Northampton Town lost at Lincoln City as a ten-man Cobblers side conceded late on to lose 2-1.
Tarique Fosu had put Northampton ahead within two minutes of kick-off, before Tom Hamer’s equaliser brought the Imps level.
The Cobblers saw Tyler Roberts sent off and the game would eventually see Erik Ring score in the final minutes of the 90 to win the game for the home side.
Defeat was Northampton’s first loss in four games, with Jon Brady’s chance missing out on the chance to climb up from 18th position in the League One table.
An unchanged side made the optimal start when they took the lead within two minutes at the LNER Stadium.
Roberts was able to advance down the left hand side for the visitors, and he duly fed Fosu, who saw a strike land in the back of the net via a deflection.
A fast start saw Lincoln’s Ethan Hamilton have a shot deflected wide before Fosu missed the target with an effort when played through.
Lincoln would equalise just over 15 minutes after falling behind. The hosts won a corner and Reeco Hackett’s delivery found Hamer to score.
After equalising, Lincoln upped the tempo and the home side came close as Ben House’s strike went over before Lee Burge kept out Sean Roughan’s effort and Jack Baldwin had to clear a strike off the line.
Northampton would however come close to equalising in the final minutes of the half, as Jon Guthrie’s header at a free-kick was kept out by Lincoln goalkeeper George Wickens.
The momentum of the second half was slowed by an injury to Northampton’s Tom Eaves, who’d come on as a half-time sub only to be withdrawn with an injury that required a lengthy period of on-pitch treatment.
With time running out, Northampton were reduced to ten men as Roberts was deemed to have kicked the ball away, earning a second booking and a dismissal.
Lincoln pushed for a winner but struggled to create chances until, with time running out, they prized the door open to score in the 88th minute. Swedish sub Ring was on hand to turn in a cross by fellow sub Jovon Makana, beating Burge to put the hosts in front for the first time.
Although twelve minutes of stoppage time would ultimately played, Northampton were unable to score a second goal and ultimately were beaten in their final assignment before the upcoming FA Cup derby clash with Kettering Town.

Northampton Town recorded a 3-0 win over Crawley Town at Sixfields.
Crawley would have leapfrogged Jon Brady’s side in the table had they been victorious, but the Cobblers instead pulled away from their opponents.
Tarique Fosu, an own goal by Jay Williams and Mitch Pinnock did the honours for the hosts, who climb up to 17th in the League One table and now have a five point margin on the relegation zone.
The Cobblers were looking to make it three games unbeaten after beating Leyton Orient and drawing with Stockport, and were facing a test against a Crawley outfit who had got their first win under new manager Rob Elliot against Lincoln City in midweek.
At home, Northampton made the quicker start, with Cameron McGeehan denied by away goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott before Tyler Roberts hit the side netting after rounding the Crawley goalkeeper.
With 16 minutes on the clock, it was Northampton that struck first. From a corner routine, Fosu exchanged passes with Samy Chouchane before blasting a strike home to put Northampton ahead.
The second came just after the half hour, with a corner again causing bother. This time, Pinnock’s corner struck Crawley’s former Northampton and Brackley man Williams before trundling over the line, despite McGeehan attempting to claim it.
Crawley had a lot of possession but consistently struggled to create chances, and the points were sealed just before the hour mark when Pinnock received McGeehan’s flick from a Fosu cross and converted.
The visitors did have a few half-chances, but Northampton saw the job through to warm-up for next weekend’s FA Cup derby with Kettering Town with three points in the league.
