Luton Town were victorious over Wigan Athletic as an early goal saw them pick up a 1-0 win at Kenilworth Road.
George Saville’s goal inside the opening ten minutes was the decisive moment as the Hatters picked up three points on their return to Kenilworth Road.
The Hatters had been beaten by Bradford City in their previous outing, but a return to winning ways means that Luton have won 3 of their opening 4 outings.
A bright opening for Matt Bloomfield’s side ended up with Luton taking the lead inside the opening nine minutes. Liam Walsh picked up the ball on the left and his cross found Saville, who duly placed a strike into the back of the net.
The visitors mounted a decent response, with Wigan coming close to an equaliser on multiple occasions. Will Aimson hit the post, Josh Keeley made a fine save to thwart Paul Mullin and Aimson hit the bar after Keeley dropped a cross.
Luton had still come close themselves, with Sam Tickle making a big stop to deny Jordan Clark.
Keeley then made another pair of saves in the first half, with the former Spurs keeper making good stops to keep out attempts from Callum Wright and Jason Kerr.
Having kept Wigan at bay in the first half, Luton nearly came close to a second when Tickle made a good save to keep out Millenic Alli’s long-range strike.
Substitute Lasse Nordas hit the post and then had another strike deflected wide, before Tickle made a big stop to keep out Alli.
With Luton unable to find a second goal, keeper Tickle was nearly the unlikely person to punish the hosts as the Wigan keeper went forward for a late corner and only just fired wide.
The Hatters were able to see things out, taking the points. Luton will seek to make it 2 wins from 2 home games in 5 days on Saturday, when fellow relegated outfit Cardiff City make the trip for Bedfordshire.
