Northampton Town remain waiting for their first win of the new season as they lost 1-0 at home to Lincoln City.

Freddie Draper’s goal in the first half was the only one of the contest as the Imps won at Sixfields, helping the visitors pick up a third win from their opening four outings.

Northampton, by contrast, have collected just one point from their opening four League One outings, with Kevin Nolan’s side one of a number of teams still winless in the third tier so far this season.

The hosts had yet to take the lead in a game so far this season, but had a decent chance to do so when Lincoln goalkeeper George Wickens denied Tyrese Fornah.

However, the visitors would open the scoring in the 20 minute mark. Tendayi Darikwa’s cross picked out Draper, who fired home a crisp volley via the post.

Former Northampton man James Collins nearly made it worse for the hosts, as he fired over when well placed.

Northampton had some opportunities to equalise, with Wickens denying Terry Taylor and the keeper making a save in the midst of a goalmouth scramble.

Defender Conor McCarthy would have a drive blocked by Draper, in a second half that saw the Cobblers look the likelier to score.

Their best attempts saw substitute Elliott List head wide when well placed before Wickens kept out Cameron McGeehan.

But a breakthrough wouldn’t come Northampton’s way as they ultimately fell to a third defeat in their opening four outings of the new season.

Northampton will have another home game at the weekend in their attempts to find that first win, when they welcome Leyton Orient to Sixfields on Saturday.
