
Northampton will play Wigan Athletic away from home in their first match of the 2025/26 League One season.
The Cobblers will start the new campaign by visiting Wigan on Saturday August 2nd 2025, which will begin at 3pm and be broadcast on Sky Sports along with all opening weekend fixtures in the 3 EFL divisions.
Wigan had been Northampton’s opponents in the final game of last season, with the Cobblers ending last season with a 1-1 draw at home to the 2013 FA Cup winners.
Northampton’s first home match of the 2025/26 season will be at home to newly promoted outfit Bradford City on August 9th, while their August schedule will see them also play games against Stevenage, Lincoln, Exeter and Leyton Orient.
The Cobblers’ Nene Valley Derby matches against Peterborough United will see them face off for the first time this season at Peterborough on the weekend of December 13th. The return clash at Sixfields is on February 28th.
On Boxing Day, Northampton visit Burton Albion, with the Cobblers’ last home match before Christmas seeing them welcome last season’s League 2 play-off winners AFC Wimbledon on December 20th.
Northampton’s last contest of 2025 will see them visit Huddersfield Town on December 29th, while they welcome Stockport to Sixfields on New Year’s Day in their first game of 2026.
The Cobblers’ Easter duo will see them play the return fixtures of their opening two games of the campaign. Northampton play Bradford in Yorkshire on Good Friday (03/04), then play a home match against Wigan on Easter Monday (06/04).
Northampton wrap up their season by playing a home match against Plymouth Argyle on May 2nd 2026, with their last away game being at Cardiff the week before.
None of Northampton’s last four games are against sides who were in League One last season, with the Cobblers facing games against all 3 relegated sides from last season’s Championship in the form of Luton, Cardiff and Plymouth, and a contest against League Two champions Doncaster.
