A late Elijah Adebayo goal saw Luton Town come from behind to beat Stoke City 2-1 at Kenilworth Road.
Tom Cannon had put Stoke ahead in the early stages of the contest, before Carlton Morris scored an equaliser for the hosts.
Just when it looked as though Luton were about to play out a second 1-1 home draw in four days, Adebayo popped up on the stroke of the 90 minute mark to divert in a shot and hand Luton the victory.
The victory saw Luton jump above Stoke in the Championship table, with a first win in four games seeing Rob Edwards’ Hatters climb to 14th in the table. They are now five points clear of the relegation zone ahead of today’s (11/12) games.
Stoke struck early with a goal in the sixth minute. Million Manhoef’s through pass released Cannon, who eluded last man Daiki Hashioka before firing a low shot across Thomas Kaminski into the bottom corner.
The Hatters reacted well to the blow of falling behind, however, with the hosts pressing for a leveller. They came close when former Stoke man Jacob Brown played in Adebayo, who was denied by Viktor Johansson in the Stoke goal.
Luton would duly equalise in the 24th minute. A Jordan Clark corner picked out captain Morris, whose glancing header found its way into the Stoke goal to make it 1-1.
A chaotic scramble nearly put Luton in front, with two strikes blocked and another diverted wide following a melee at the back post from a Clark corner that had been flicked on across goal.
Stoke had spent much of the rest of the first half on the back foot, but nearly took the lead in the second half when a drive by Lewis Koumas had to be tipped over by Kaminski.
Koumas would later miss another chance from outside the box, while Luton then began to up the tempo in the final stages. They came close when Morris side-footed wide when well placed before Adebayo had a shot cleared off the line by Cannon.
A winner would come Luton’s way in the 90th minute. A free-kick was half cleared to Tom Krauß, whose low drive ended up being diverted beyond Johansson by Adebayo, which duly won the game for Luton and condemned Stoke to a second 2-1 defeat after scoring first in as many games.
The Hatters are next in action on Saturday, as they seek to end their recent run of poor away form at Ewood Park when they play Blackburn Rovers.
