Luton Town’s Irish international winger Chiedozie Ogbene has left the Hatters to join Ipswich Town.
The 27-year-old has joined the Tractor Boys on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee widely reported to be in the region of around £8million.
Ogbene leaves just over a year after joining the Hatters, who he joined from Rotherham United on a free transfer.
The winger had joined Luton ahead of their first Premier League season in just over 30 years and made 36 appearances last season in all competitions, scoring five goals. He had played in all 3 of Luton’s first games in the Championship this season before a deal to sell him to the Suffolk-based club was agreed.
In his career, Ogbene has also received 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, scoring four times.
Ogbene is Ipswich’s latest signing as they build a squad for their first season in the Premier League in over 20 years, following recent signings such as Jacob Greaves, Liam Delap, former England international Kalvin Phillips and last season’s Championship top scorer Sammie Szmodics.
The winger told the official Ipswich Town TV channel TownTV of his delight to make the move back to the Premier League.
He said, “I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again.
“I’ve had very positive chats with the manager and for someone to believe in me that I could play at this level again means a lot to me and my family.
“I know what he wants from me and the role I will play and I’m here to be a positive addition to the squad as we look to achieve our goals.
“It’s an opportunity I had to grab with both hands and I can’t wait to be involved as soon as possible.”
