Milton Keynes City Council confirmed they have prosecuted a Bedfordshire resident for dumping a mattress and other waste in a country lane in Milton Keynes.

The Council confirmed they successfully prosecuted the man for illegally fly tipping the rubbish on a lane in Bourne End on 28 March 2023, who has been hit with penalties in excess of £3,000.

On Friday 22 July, Magistrates heard witness evidence that the rubbish was dumped from a blue Ford Transit van which MK City Council’s Environment Crime officers had been able to identify as a hire vehicle and subsequently traced the driver.

The driver, who has not been named, failed to co-operate with the investigation and was summonsed to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court. After failing to attend the court hearing, he was sentenced in his absence. He was fined £1,760 ordered to pay the city council’s legal costs of £565 and a victim surcharge of £704.

Cabinet Member for the Public Realm, Cllr Jennifer Wilson-Marklew, said, “We do not tolerate this kind of behaviour and always aim to take action against fly tippers. This offender has paid the price for not disposing of their rubbish properly. We urge residents to report fly tipping as they’re helping to improve where we live.”
